Ingredients

3 ¾ cups whole milk
1 ½ cup heavy cream
7 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ¼ cup sugar
Optional zest of ½ an orange
Instructions
Cut bread into 1-inch cubes and set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together milk, cream, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
Add optional orange zest if using.
Place bread cubes in a greased 9×13 baking dish.
Pour custard over bread evenly and press lightly to submerge.
Let soak for 30 minutes (or overnight for deeper flavor).
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake for 50–60 minutes or until center is set and top is golden brown.
Let cool slightly before serving with vanilla sauce.
Notes
For deeper flavor, let the custard soak overnight before baking.
To reheat leftovers, warm in the oven at 300°F for 10–15 minutes.
You can freeze leftovers tightly wrapped for up to 2 months.
